GSSW Dean Alberto Godenzi was elected president of the National Association of Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work (NADD) at their annual meeting earlier this month. Godenzi will take on his new role in June 2008 for a period of three years, succeeding Dean Katharine Briar-Lawson of the University at Albany School of Social Welfare. Godenzi is the second NADD President from Boston College, the first being former GSSW Dean June Gary Hopps, who served as president from 1986 to 1988.

GSSW students receive Massachusetts Gerontology Association Awards
Five GSSW students in the Older Adult/Families concentration won awards at this year’s Massachusetts Gerontology Association meeting in both the Student Paper and Poster competitions.

James Mazzuchelli took 2nd place in the Student Paper Competition with his paper on “Mental Health and Social Work Implications for Serving the Aging Black Male Veteran Population”. Rebecca Mylecraine, Anjali Himali, Liz Rothwell, and Emily Schmick all received Honorable Mention. In the Student Poster Competition GSSW students Carole Simone took First Place and Rachel Shiffrin placed Second

GSSW students receive Boston College “University and School” Awards
These awards are reflective of the Boston College Mission Statement and highlight the depth and breadth of graduate student involvement at Boston College. We congratulate the following students for the recognition of their achievements and contributions.
