Doctoral Program

The Program seeks highly-qualified applicants. Commitment to a research career in the field of social welfare or social work is expected of all who apply to the program. Preference for admission is given to applicants with a master’s degree in social work. However, applicants who lack a master’s degree in social work are also encouraged to apply and consider the combined MSW/PhD option. The doctoral program enrolls new students in the fall semester of each academic year. Enrollment is on a full-time basis only, with a two-year residency requirement. All applicants to the Boston College GSSW Doctoral Program must demonstrate a potential for doctoral studies by providing the following materials:

* Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
* Resume
* Letters of recommendation (3)
* Statement of Purpose for seeking doctoral education
* Results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE); GSSW code is 3219
* Scores from TOEFL if native language of country of origin is not English
* Writing Sample

The application deadline is January 15th.
